This weekend for Mother's Day Spencer and I went to Waco for a few reasons. The Baylor softball team had their last two home games of the season and well, it was Mother's Day. Sadly, I didn't take one picture the whole weekend, which I am pretty bummed about because we had so much fun! So, don't freak out with all the writing...if you make it past this sentence...just pop in some pictures in your head whenever ya want. :) We came in Friday afternoon because Spencer had a job in Waco so it worked out really nice for us! I even got to see my dear friend, Britni!
Friday night, Spencer and my Dad went fishing and my Mom and I walked Bailey around the neighborhood pond where the boys were fishing. She loved it and loved trying to chase the ducks. (Bailey, not my mom. haha) Good thing I had a leash. :) Saturday, we slept in, went to lunch with both families at Panera, then went to the softball game. Later that night, Spencer's parents came over to my parents for dinner and we played washers! Yeah, we weren't so good but it was still fun. :) After our washers game, Spencer and I went walking with my dear family friend Beth Ann. It was SO good to see her. She is the best hug giver ever. :) Sunday, we met Spencer's family at Starbucks, then we all went to lunch with my parents and Spencer's parents at Jason's Deli then we went to the softball game. They won both games this weekend in the last inning! It was SO exciting! We left after the game and went to go see Spencer's 88-year-old grandpa, Popeye! When we walked in he started playing the harmonica for us! He was pretty good! I'm so glad we got to see him this trip. :) After that we headed back to Austin. It was a fast weekend but so good to hang out with everyone!
This weekend, I was reminded of how thankful I am to have such a wonderful mother that raised me in Christian principles and values. She has taught me how to cook, how to always be happy, how to appreciate music (sorry the piano lessons didn't stick hehe) and how to love people. She is always sending people cards or calling to check on them or hosting showers or bringing people food. That is one of the things I have always admired about her and I strive to do the same! I am so thankful for her and so blessed to have her in my life!
I am also so thankful for the other "mother" figures I have in my life! Susan, my long-time 2nd mother we always joke. I know she will always be there for me! Also, I am so thankful for my mother-in-law, Sue. She is such a strong woman of God and is so wise! She is a great friend to me and I am thankful for her and how she has embraced me into her family!
This weekend was also bittersweet and at times, so hard. It was my first Mother's Day without Jake and Ty. I miss them so much it hurts, but I know in my heart they are with Jesus and are in a much better place than you or I, so for that I am thankful. I am just so grateful that God allowed us the small window of time we got to spend with them and love on them. They have made me a better person so I will always be thankful for their short lives and the impact they have made on me and others. I was so thankful and appreciative of how people reached out to us through cards or texts. It meant so much to us that are little boys were not forgotten.
I hope everyone had a truly blessed Mother's Day weekend and were able to spend good, quality time with those you love!
You do have such a wonderful mother...I remember all of those piano lessons:o)!!!! Emily, you are a wonderful mother too. Sweet Jake and Ty were so blessed to have you carry them ever so gently. I love you even though we live so far apart. You are in my thoughts and prayers Emily!
