Weekend in the Ham

Last weekend, Jan. 15 - 18, I took a trip to the Ham, Birmingham, Alabama that is to go visit one of my very best friends, Alison. We have been friends since college and only lived in the same town for about 3 years - the other 5 years we have lived in different states! The residents endearingly call it "The Ham" or maybe just Alison...who knows...Anyways, back in November Southwest was having a ridiculous sale so I bought a round-trip ticket for $75! How crazy is that. I couldn't drive to Birmingham that cheap. I had work off of Martin Luther King Day so I just made a long weekend out of it.

To make the weekend even better, I got to see Rebecca and Josh! yea! Our friends Winnie and Alan also took advantage of the sale the same weekend and they stayed with Rebecca and Josh the whole weekend. We all went to this pizza place on Friday night, which was ok...but then I got sick..I guess it didn't agree with me! It was so good to see Josh and Rebecca, though. We had a really good visit!

Saturday, Alison and I started the day off very ambitiously and went to a kickboxing class at her gym. Yeah! At first I was skeptical. We started doing all these dumb 80's aerobics moves and taking two steps and hopping and turning in circles and clapping. Yeah, I almost left. BUT, once we got to the kickboxing class it was actually a really good workout! Except for my upset tummy from the pizza...yeah...I had to stop mid-way through the class!

The rest of the day was so wonderful. We went and had our make-up done where Alison works a few weekends a month at Amy Head, wandered about Homewood - this area of town has some really fun and unique boutiques and furniture stores. We also had the best cherry limeade I have ever had in my entire life - seriously. This mom-and-pop diner made them homemade - oh my gosh they were SO good! That night we went and hung out with some of her friends then came back to her house and watched a movie!

Sunday we went to her church, ate Mexican food (duh), and hung out around her house. It was freezing! So we watched a movie and watched Kentucky basketball stomp all over Auburn! yeah! Later that afternoon we went to her high school girls' Bible study that she leads - they are such sweet girls. And then went to see It's Complicated - such a cute movie and ate popcorn for dinner! haha :)

Monday I had to leave so we got up early and went on one of the hardest walks I have ever been on. WE just went through her neighborhood but these hills seriously could be ski slops! They were so steep! When we got back, she made us brunch and then we went to the airport.
It was such a good visit and I was sad to go but ready to be back to Spencer and Bailey. :)
